Fire Risk Assessment
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) 2005, you are classed as the 'Responsible Person' and are responsible for fire safety in business or other domestic premises. if you fall into one or more of the following categories:
- Employer
- Owner
- Landlord
- Occupier
- Anyone else with control of the premises eg a facilities manager, building manager, managing agent or risk assessor
Article 9 of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) 2005 places a legal duty on the Responsible Person to carry out a Fire Risk Assessment. The Fire Risk Assessment will need to consider:
- Identification of the fire hazards
- Identification of the people at risk
- Evaluation, removal and/or reduction of the risks
- Recording the findings, preparation of an emergency plan and provision of training
- Regular review and updating of the fire risk assessment
It is the the duty of the Responsible Person to ensure that a regular review of the Fire Risk Assessment is undertaken by a Competent Person; this will identify any changes and will highlight any further control measures that may be necessary to prevent fire, protect premises and to keep people safe in the event of a fire.
